കാലിക്കറ്റ് യൂണിവേഴ്സിറ്റി നിർദ്ദേശിച്ച സിലബസ്പ്രകാരം , ബി.എ., ബി.എസ്.സി., ബി.കോം, ബി.ബി.എ. കോഴ്സുകളിലെ കോമൺ കോഴ്സ് മലയാളം മാത്രമാണ് കോളേജിലെ മലയാള വിഭാഗത്തിൽ നിലവിൽ ഉൾപ്പെടുന്നത്. ബിരുദ വിദ്യാർത്ഥികളിൽ മാതൃഭാഷയോടും സാഹിത്യത്തോടുമുള്ള താൽപര്യം വർദ്ധിപ്പിക്കുവാനും അതുവഴി അവരെ സാംസ്ക്കാരിക ഉന്നതിയിലേക്ക് നയിക്കുവാനും അനുയോജ്യമായ പാഠ്യ-പാഠ്യേതര പ്രവർത്തനങ്ങളുമായി മലയാള വിഭാഗം പ്രവർത്തിച്ചു കൊണ്ടിരിക്കുന്നു. സർഗ്ഗാത്മകാഭിരുചികൾ കണ്ടെത്തി അവയെ പരിപോഷിപ്പിക്കുവാൻ ക്ലാസ് മാഗസിനുകൾ, കോളേജ് മാഗസിൻ തുടങ്ങിയവയുടെ പ്രവർത്തന മേൽനോട്ടത്തിലൂടെയും ശ്രേഷ്ഠ ഭാഷാചരണം, മധുരം മലയാളം തുടങ്ങിയ പരിപാടികളിലൂടെയും മലയാള വിഭാഗം വഴി സാധ്യമാകുന്നുണ്ട്.
