ABOUT DEPARTMENT

The department of Sociology was established during the academic year 2019-20. As part of BA Sociology programme, students need to study their main subjects along with complementary papers Psychology and History. Department enables students to become socially responsible citizens contributing to their overall development. Department organizes various seminars and competitions as part of their co-curricular activities.

Sociology is one of the most prominent subject in social science.it deals with human society, social interactions and each and every dimensions of human life. The discipline emerged in response to find out solution to the social issues and anarchies followed by twin revolutions in European society. August Comte and Saint-Simon pawed a strong foundation for the discipline and it grown through the academic nurturing of Marx Weber, Herbert Spencer, and Emile Durkheim.

VISION

The vision of the department is to provide quality education for students and help them to express their maximum potential. Department aims to mould academically well oriented students and socially committed citizen by developing and providing a curriculum that is both rigorous and relevant.We prepare them for their future careers and lives as engaged citizens and to get an exposure to fundamental concepts and theories in acquiring skills for sociological imagination. Also the department aims to develop critical sensibility towards social, economic and political situation and to develop critical thinking ability.

MISSION

The mission of the department of sociology is to provide scientific understanding of society and social phenomena. Sociology as an academic discipline centred around one’s own social life experiences. So the department provides activities classes, seminars, add courses and programs to develop social consciousness and critical thinking among students. Collective efforts is the key to success of any significant practices, so the department faculties working collectively to make our students a responsible, critically sensible individual with sociological imagination.
